Additional measures in and around Sensation in the Amsterdam ArenA

This morning, the city of Amsterdam, released a statement in connection with Sensation that is scheduled to take place in the Amsterdam ArenA this Saturday. Based on the current information and the judgement of the local authorities, it was decided that the event will happen. At the request of local authorities and in consultation with the Amsterdam ArenA, a number of additional logistic measures will be taken. The nature of these measures will be shared with the visitors of the event through the usual communication channels as soon as possible.

Statement City Of Amsterdam:

Amsterdam’s mayor, the Chief Public Prosecutor and Chief of Police has decided to take additional measures around Sensation, Saturday, July 2nd at the Amsterdam ArenA. These measures were discussed with the Amsterdam ArenA and the organization of the dance party. The reason for the action is a signal that relates to Sensation in the Amsterdam ArenA.

The measures were discussed with the Amsterdam ArenA and the organization of Sensation. The reason for the action is a signal that relates to Sensation in the Amsterdam ArenA. The signal fits within the national threat assessment, which is substantially since 2013. The triangle is thereunder been extra alert at major events, and on the basis of the signal in this case decided to take extra precautions. This does not lead to a different threat, but with the additional measures put safety first.

Signals
The local authorities emphasizes that it is not the first time that there is a such a signal, aimed at Amsterdam. It is a reality that we have to deal with in all major cities in Europe at the moment. As in the rest of the Netherlands is therefore extra vigilance for some time among other major events. There are additional measures needed in some cases. The measures in and around the ArenA should be seen in this perspective. The Arena and the area around it can continue to be accessible and all activities.

Risk management
The starting point of the local authorities is to continue normal life in Amsterdam as much as possible and that the city should not be guided by signals of threat. For events there are always various risks. The deployment of the local authorities is to manage those risks in a responsible manner. The city is of the opinion that the event can continue to be taken if additional measures.

Measures
The additional measures will be visible and visitors will notice it. The core of the visible measures is that all visitors to the Arena will be searched, the area around the ArenA will be checked and cars can’t enter the transfer point under the ArenA. In addition a number of invisible measures will be taken.
